EU fines AliExpress 550 million euros for illegal product sales

The European Commission imposed a record 550 million‑euro fine on Chinese e‑commerce platform AliExpress on 20 July 2026. The sanction, the largest ever under the Digital Services Act (DSA), cites the platform’s failure to assess and mitigate risks linked to illegal, dangerous or counterfeit goods such as toys, cosmetics and clothing. The Commission gave AliExpress until 20 October 2026 to submit a detailed remediation plan, warning that periodic penalties will follow if it does not comply. Brussels says the penalty is proportionate to the seriousness, duration and nature of the breaches, while AliExpress calls the fine disproportionate and says it will consider legal recourse. The action follows earlier DSA enforcement steps, including a 200 million‑euro fine on rival platform Temu.
