Alibaba launches 2.4‑trillion‑parameter Qwen3.8, says it trails only Anthropic’s Fable 5

Alibaba unveiled Qwen3.8‑Max‑Preview, a 2.4 trillion‑parameter multimodal AI model, at the World AI Conference in Shanghai. The company claims the model is "second only to Anthropic's Fable 5" and will be offered on its Token Plan, Qoder and QoderWork platforms at a discounted trial price. No benchmark data or technical documentation were released, so the performance claim cannot yet be verified. The announcement lifted Alibaba’s Hong Kong‑listed shares by more than 3.5 percent, while Chinese rivals Moonshot AI and Zhipu have also been racing with trillion‑parameter models.
