NDLEA seizes 1.63 million tramadol pills bound for Kano, arrests dozens including 80‑year‑old suspect

Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted two trailers carrying a total of 1.63 million tramadol 250 mg pills destined for Kano, uncovering fabricated compartments used to hide the drugs. The operation, part of an intelligence‑led crackdown on a transnational syndicate moving narcotics from Togo through Benin into Nigeria, also led to the arrest of an 80‑year‑old man in Rivers State and several other suspects across Lagos, Edo, Kogi and other states. In parallel, NDLEA seized 4.70 kg of synthetic cannabis (Canadian Loud) at Lagos’s international airport and disrupted additional drug warehouses. The agency says the three truck interceptions within a week belong to the same network, bringing total seizures from the group to over 2.18 million tramadol pills in a month. The crackdown is accompanied by a nationwide “War Against Drug Abuse” (WADA) awareness campaign in schools.
