South Korea evacuates area as Coupang warehouse fire rages, collapse feared

A massive fire at Coupang's 299,000‑square‑metre logistics centre in Incheon, which broke out on July 18, has forced authorities to order evacuations within a 116‑metre radius around the ramp zone. The eight‑story, eight‑floor warehouse remains uncontained after more than 47 hours, prompting fears of structural collapse due to intense heat and thick smoke. Over 700 firefighters and more than 220 pieces of equipment have been deployed under a national mobilisation order, while nearby schools and daycare centres were closed. One firefighter was hospitalised for smoke inhalation and another for exhaustion. Coupang is supplying shelter, food and supplies to emergency crews and displaced residents.
